Ad Crucem Icon - St Catherines Jesus the Pantocrator VDMA the door will be openedThe image on this icon dates from the 6th century, and comes from the Byzantine monastery of St Catherine's at Sinai. It is printed directly onto a wood background with a traditional red frame. Generations of Christians have kept replicas of this icon in their homes or churches as a reminder that Jesus is the ruler of the universe (pantocrator means ruler of everything). The icon's seeming asymmetry represents Jesus' dual nature as human and divine.
