Known for their tenacious spirit and strategic acumen, the Rutherfords first settled in the lands near Roxburgh, an area pivotal during Scotland's tumultuous medieval period. Their name is believed to derive from the Old English words for "cattle ford," a reference to a river crossing on their land.
