Dutch Boy Smoking Pipe, Hand-drawn Watercolor Postcard, 1924 carved wooden whimsy chain and indeed the sculpture isI've come to understand that a Dutch boy in clogs was a common subject for hand drawn postcards in the first quarter of the 20th century, and was used as the basis for all sorts of playful variations. (I had another in the shop missing one sock, reading 'In Haste I am Yours'.) I love the pink cheeks and arched eyebrows on this (cheeky!) one, puffing on a very long pipe with trail of smoke behind presumably straight off the streets of Amsterdam! 3 1 2"
