then sliding the lid over

together with a cemetery about making me think perhaps this box once held momentos of a deceased loved one

The handwritten titles are a good part of what I love about them, lending a sort of iconic aspect to the figures depicted, perfectly complimented by the color block watercoloring on three of the four. The fourth, crayoned, is my particular favorite, with this "big doll" about as empathetic and animate as a doll could be.
